Panasonic DMR BW880 - Panasonic Blu-ray Recorders
Accept no substitute - this is the best, not the cheapest, but the best. It may not be the best forever, but the Panasonic DMR BW880 has set a standard, and it's going to be a while before anyone pips this one - hence the price. Sometimes the addition of a load of onboard memory (in this case a whopping 500 GB) is used as an excuse to put the price up. That is not the case here, as it is more about picture quality and reliability than anything else.
The picture is 'guaranteed by the processor (PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus), and it's Uniphier Chip. The model's technology ensure great picture quality by segmenting the picture at pixel level, which results in no smearing or other undesirable effect witnessed on cheap Blu-ray players. Don't forget, although this is a recorder, Panasonic have ensured that the playback is state of the art - what would be the point otherwise?
There are so many recording and playback options that it's just as well a lot of time has been put into developing a very straightforward menu system. The DMR BW880 is compatible with a wide range of media formats, so, you can show your holiday and movies in their full HD glory using the player. It is fully LAN connectable, so although you can use an SD card, you can also transfer Jpegs via your network - they've though of pretty much everything. Don't pick up the manual if you have anything pressing to though, as you'll find yourself spending hours testing everything the recorder is capable of.
With its BD Live software, you are able to connect to the Internet and play Blu-ray movies that have Internet-enabled content, such as interactive multiplayer games. This is one of the many features that makes this the Blu-ray recorder of choice if you are used to demanding the most from your home entertainment system.
