Panasonic DMR BW780 - Panasonic Blu-ray Recorders
The Panasonic DMR-BW780EBK really is a stand out model, both as a straight-forward Blu-ray player, and as a recorder. It's neatly encased innards contain the award winning Uniphier Chip, a processor that is pretty much unsurpassable in terms of ensuring that what you are watching is processed so efficiently that you never see any 'seams', and all done in full 1080 HD playback. This a 'component heavy' device, and the result of some serious research and development.
With it's FreeSat connectivity, you can record what you want from the available digital channels for free, and you can record simultaneously whilst watching from your HDD (which is a very respectable 250GB - large enough for most people's needs). Like digital, FreeSat channels initially started out as a mediocre affair, but now the big guns such as ITV and BBC are getting on board, and in HD too, which means that you will not just be watching in HD quality, but you will be watching programmes made with high production values, starring household names.
The DIGA system makes recording and playback selection a doddle. There's no point in creating a great recorder unless you follow up by making sure that it is highly usable. And this is very easy to use, and, it has to be as there are so many options. And in DR mode, you can record HD content and broadcasts direct to the HDD without losing any signal and therefore recording and playback quality.
This really is a great recorder, and at the price, it needs to be, but, Panasonic don't let their customers down, that's why they've got where they are and have managed to develop such a good Blu-ray recorder before everyone else.
