Panasonic DMR BS850 - Panasonic Blu-ray Recorders
The BS850 has two distinct differences with the BS750, hence the price, connectivity, and its processor. While the BS750 is a perfectly adequate and reliable Blu-ray recorder, this models functionality and internal processing take things a bit further. The price difference is considerable, but not completely off the scales, and then again, with Panasonic, you do get what you pay for (that's why so many people buy them).
The PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus/ P4HD does it's best to ensure that no matter what you are watching, there will be no lag in the digital signal. This is more a player than a recorder issue, but although a lot of time has been spent developing the recording facility, the image processing hasn't been neglected. Sound can be recorded as it is broadcast, so their is no reduction in clarity, or surround arrangement (just make sure your surround configuration is the best it can be to really enjoy it).
This model is very easy to use on all levels, from using the play back menu, to setting up advanced recording, which can also be done on two programmes that are showing at the same time due to the twin signal receiver. And you can be watching a pre-recorded film or programme at the same time - in fact at this rate, you may run out of decent programmes to record.
This model has everything that you will need including internet connectivity, as well as compatibility with other sound and image media. Not everyone uses all available functions though, they simply want a reliable recorder that records an plays back HD quality images without any fuss, and this is where this model excels - let us know what you think!

Panasonic DMR BS850 - Review
Due to on-going problems with our Freeview Humax PVR unit we decided to change it with a Which? Best Buy Panasonic twin Freesat tuner Blu-ray recorder and also receive HD transmissions. It was extremely easy to set up and produces excellent pictures in both SD and HD from TV transmissions when linked to our Panasonic TV.
We have not had time to explore all the functions yet and probably won't ever use some of them but we were that impressed by the first Blu-ray film we played we quickly bought some more. A brilliant machine and, hopefully, with the traditional Panasonic reliability. Thoroughly recommended but have only given it 4 stars because we've only had it a few weeks. By Nigel E.
